It's not the first time Google's miniature home speaker has been part of a giveaway promotion. Last year, Spotify gave the previous-generation Google Home Mini away to anyone with a $10 premium account. The offer must be redeemed by June 30 and is available only to those with active accounts, meaning if your membership is paused, you won't be eligible. You must be enrolled in an individual, student, or family plan and registered as the head of household to qualify for the deal. In its aggressive push towards digital assistant dominance, Google is now offering a free Google Home Mini to some Google Assistant users.
The promotion, for now, looks to be limited to customers in the United States. It’s unclear at this point whether the offer will expand to more countries and Google products. We’re only days away from Google’s annual hardware event, where it’s expected to unveil a range of new products including the second-gen Home Mini. But before that, the search engine giant appears eager to get rid of its first-gen Home Mini stock. Reddit user Cronulla, whose parents received one of the devices for free, said the Google Home Mini was accompanied with a message that wished “Happy Valentine’s Day”. The random giveaway comes two years after a promotion that ran in late 2017 that saw online shoppers who participated in a particular offer or who spent more than $300 on an online order receive a free device.

Google Nest is giving away 100,000 free Home Minis to people who are living with paralysis. “From time to time, we like to send Google Home Minis with home deliveries to online customers as a gift with purchase. “With a Google Home, customers can add items to their Woolworths shopping list via voice as and when they think of items around the house,” a Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo Finance. The Nest Mini is the latest version of Google's smaller-size smart-home speaker, which it announced last year.
It’s also rumored to feature a built-in wall mount and a standard audio port. The Home Mini typically retails for $49; however, it routinely goes on sale for as low as $25 and is often offered as a “free” add-on when you purchase some smart home devices. It does seem that the supermarket giant is trying to encourage shoppers to use a voice function of the Google Home Mini that allows shoppers to verbally add items to their grocery list using the device. “This is a push by Woolies to encourage random people to use the shopping list function within Google Assistant to promote more online grocery orders,” a Facebook user commented. Based on several reports sent to AndroidPolice, Google is giving away free Home Minis to YouTube Premium users through the Google Assistant. The prompt to claim the gift is popping up randomly and we couldn’t reproduce it ourselves.

Starting Friday morning, Google is partnering with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to give away 100,000 Google Home Minis to those living with paralysis or their caregivers.

As of now, it isn't clear which users are eligible for the free smart speaker. But since the offer is popping up in the Assistant feed, it's safe to assume that Google is extending it to people who utilize the Google Assistant on their devices. Google announced this morning via blog post that it has partnered with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to give away 100,000 Home Mini units to people living with paralysis. The news is designed to mark the 29th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act , which was signed into law on this day in 1990.

But yeah clearly they've gotten a lot of them from Google,” the Reddit user said in a comment on his own post. To make matters more mysterious, there are no strings attached; the voice-activated device does not appear to be part of any promotion.
Google has been pushing the compact home speakers, likely in a move to expand market share in the voice assistant space. Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak has suggested the company go a step further - offering a free Google Home Mini to every U.S. household. Google’s Home Mini is the most affordable speaker in the company’s lineup. The device can be connected to smart home devices and used for everything from controlling your thermostat to turning lights on and off.

It’s available in charcoal, grey, and coral fabric-lined colors and gives you access to anything Google Assistant offers, like hands-free calls, quick searches, and of course, music from Spotify or Google Play. It's certainly one way of getting Google Home Mini speakers into homes, but we suspect this might be Google clearing out stock before the launch of a new device on 15 October. There's been rumours that there will be a new Home Mini announced alongside the Pixel 4.
